Some Wrestling History

Roger Holden is a long time wrestler, coach and contributor to the sport of wrestling in New Jersey.

As a competitor, Roger had a distinguished high school and college career. He was Team Captain while wrestling for Southern Regional HS. There he won multiple district titles as well as placing in the NJ State Championships. Roger also had an extensive freestyle career winning numerous Mid-Atlantic Championships.

Roger has been a successful coach for many years. He started coaching local teams in 1973. In 1985 he established his Wildcat Freestyle Team/Club which, until 1994 when he stopped counting, had over 150 place winners at national events. Roger's sons have also been successful wrestlers. Son Ian is a 14 time national AAU Champion, while younger son Colin is a 9 time national place winner. One of the club wrestlers Roger developed is 3 time Junior National All-American Pat McGrath.

Roger is also a level one USAW and a level one AAU freestyle and Greco-Roman official. He regularly officiates at various wrestling events throughout the US.
