David Falkenau has been the Surfing Club Advisor & Coach at the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California since 2001. A successful coach, his team placed 1st in the Desert Coastal League , California Interscholastic Federation, Southern Section, CIF-SS, and 1st in the Interscholastic Surfing Federation, ISF, California State Championships, Longboarding Division, Southern California in 2005-2006. He also coached Charlie May (ANA Surf Team) into winning 4th place in the California State Longboarding Championships, ISF, Southern California, that same season.

In the summer of 2006 he opened Artisan Surf Designs in Carlsbad, CA, in partnership with Jerry Ingham. He is also a Shaper, Hollow Wood Surfboard Framer, Designer, and Fin Maker.
