John Geyer
Wrestling Background

John wrestled for Corona del Mar HS where he finished 2nd in CIF. Upon graduation he attended Orange Coast College where he finished second in state before moving on for a successful career at California State University Long Beach. In 1967 John placed 4th at NCAAs.

In 1972 he went into military service and competed for the US Army Wrestling Team. While on the Army team he placed 5th at the CISM World Games (military), 6th in the US National AAU Championships (behind Sanders, two good Japaneese, a Canadian, and someone else?), and did alot of other tourneys like 13 Colonys 2nd, Detriot Greco 3rd, etc.

When he got out of the service he returned to Hawaii where he was active in local tournaments there. While John was in Hawaii he was a Hawaiian AAU Champion before moving to Australia in the mid-1980s. In 1998 he went to the Australian National Championships and got a silver in Greco (69kg) and 4th in the Freestyle.

John currently trains two days a week at a local freestyle club and entered a tournament when he was in his 70s.
